Business Valuation Services

Business Valuation Services

BatesCarter has provided business valuation services for over 16 years under the direction of Ron Bracewell, CPA/ABV.  Ron’s ABV (“Accredited in Business Valuation”) credential was awarded by none other than Shannon Pratt, the father of business valuation, in 1997. The ABV credential is the highest level of recognition bestowed by the AICPA to CPAs in the business valuation profession.  To attain the ABV, an AICPA member must be a CPA in good standing with the state licensing board, exhibit experience in business valuation, incur and maintain ongoing continuing education specific to business valuation and pass a rigorous exam.

BatesCarter is fortunate to have a second CPA with the ABV credential. Martha Cartee, CPA/ABV, attained her ABV in February 2006.  Her other professional designations include CMA and CFM from the Institute of Management Accountants.   Martha and Ron work closely in providing valuation services to clients, attorneys, other CPAs and others in the Northeast Georgia and Metro Atlanta area.

Our services include providing opinions of value for estate and gift matters.  In many instances, we are asked by attorneys to assist them in providing valuation services  and other services to assist in a client’s estate and gift planning needs.  Our valuation is considered a critical component to substantiate proper gift and estate tax filings as well as withstand scrutiny from regulatory bodies.

In some cases, a valuation report is not needed, but rather our advice and consultation is required.  Those cases may include a business owner wishing to sell his/her company and requires consultation about price expectations.  With our extensive tax background and the firm’s expertise, we can provide more than just value estimates.  In many cases, we provide asset allocation advice and other tax consequences related to a sale.  Many clients have found they don’t want to monetize their life’s work without BatesCarter’s sage valuation advice.

We also assist on the buy side of a business transaction.  In these engagements, we seek to advise client’s about the risks and opportunities inherent in the business acquisition they are considering.  This includes not only an value estimate, but also, a qualitative analysis of the riskiness of future cash flows and synergistic and growth opportunities.

From time to time, our valuation services are required in a litigious matter.  Our unbiased, integrity filled work results in educating the Court, mediator or other involved parties in seeking a resolution.

Our valuation expertise also applies to our “traditional” audit and tax clients.  We believe every business will eventually sell or otherwise transfer to someone.  With that knowledge, it is imperative that the owner maximize the value of his/her company.  Many factors go into selling a closely held business and most of those take years to implement.   To achieve the highest price, a business owner should 1) find the most qualified buyer; 2) develop a market for his company (this may take quite some time) and 3) aim to reduce every uncertainty he can.  All of these take careful and intentional planning.

Let BatesCarter assist you with your valuation needs.  Afterall, we look forward to Exceeding Expectations. Always.
