Aside from his practice at BatesCarter, one of Mr. Bracewell’s most important jobs is Chairman of Staff Parish Relations (“SPR”) Committee at Gainesville First United Methodist Church (GFUMC). In the Methodist Church conference, the chairman is the congregation’s primary connection to the district superintendent and Bishop. Each year the chairman and the SPR Committee communicate with the conference Bishop and cabinet members to determine minister appointments for the following year.
As Chairman of the SPR Committee at GFUMC, Mr. Bracewell recently helped coordinate the reappointments of two ministers at the 3,000 member church. This involves leading the church in communicating appreciation and support for outgoing ministers as well as welcoming new appointed ministers. Ministers serving in the Methodist Church are appointed for 1 year at a time, therefore ensuring a seamless transition is critical to the life of a church. A responsibility that Mr. Bracewell understands well,
“[Gainesville FUMC] is more than any one person. As a Methodist Church, we know that our ministers are called to serve and eventually, will receive a calling elsewhere. Our church is responsible for supporting and nurturing our ministers and helping them grow individually while growing our church as a whole to serve God.”
The SPR committee also supports non-appointment positions by coordinating hiring and setting priorities that strengthen the church’s overall mission. Learn more about Ron Bracewell’s experience and commitment to organizations like GFUMC.
